Nestled deep in the forests of the Western Ghats are the villages of Hasuvanthe and Manjina Kaanu in Shimoga Commune. These villages are cradles of the exquisite landscape art "Chittara", practised past members of the Deewaru community. Their pictures reflect of import aspects of life such equally agriculture, wedlock and festivals.

Bearing a close resemblance to Warli art, the Chittara tin can be distinguished by their elaborate geometric designs. They are generally painted in four naturally occurring colours: crimson, white, black or yellowish.
